What makes an event sustainable?

Here are some of the criteria we consider:

Venue

  • Recycling/ composting capabilities are in place for all event waste

  • To the extent that attendees will be discarding event items, proper signage is in place

  • Favor venues that have taken steps to reduce carbon emissions associated with facility operations

    • Catering

  • Meals prepared using locally sourced, organic produce

  • Food waste is minimized: portions are appropriate, food remaining on plates is properly composted and there is a plan in place to ensure that excess food in the kitchen is donated or packaged for the client

  • Event menu takes into consideration biodiversity & scarcity concerns

  • Tableware is used in favor of single-use items

    • Decor

  • Décor is rented and not single-use

  • Rental companies are local, minimizing emissions associated with transportation

  • There is a plan in place to donate event flowers or give back to the client or event attendees

    • Venue
